Former State Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pilleyan has left the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), a short while ago, after providing a statement for around 5 hours. 
Ten persons have been arrested along with 160 kg of ICE narcotics (crystal methamphetamine) and 60 kg of heroin in Gandara, Matara by the Matara Divisional Crimes Detective Bureau (DCDB). 
A Fundamental Rights (FR) petition has been filed with the Supreme Court seeking an order that the fundamental human rights have been violated through the decision by the respondents including former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to issue liquor licenses in violation of the Excise Act after the 2024 Presidential Election was announced. 
The National People s Power (NPP) has reportedly decided to appoint MP Ashoka Ranwala, a long-time stalwart of the JVP, as the Speaker of the new Parliament. 
The New Democratic Front (NDF) has decided to conduct an independent inquiry into the appointment of Ravi Karunanayake as an MP from the National List of the alliance.
