The deadline for the acceptance of applications for university admission for the academic year 2024'2025, for students who passed the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination will end at midnight on 30 May, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced. 
An Assistant Controller of the Department of Immigration and Emigration, who was arrested for allegedly issuing three forged passports for underworld kingpin Mandinu Padmasiri alias Kehelbaddara Padme , has been ordered to be remand in custody until May 29, 2025. 
Lotus Road in Colombo Fort has been closed for traffic due to a protest a protest march by the Inter University Students Federation (IUSF).
