Sri Lanka has dropped fifteen places and ranks 150th in the 2024 World Press Freedom Index, published annually by Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

At least 33 individuals including schoolchildren have been injured and hospitalised following a head-on collision involving a Sisu Sariya bus and a bus belonging to the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) near the E.C.C. Junction in Ampara.
