The Sri Lanka Railways Locomotive Operating Engineers Union has announced its readiness to withdraw from operating coastal railway services starting at 12 noon today (June 6), in protest over unresolved issues related to the malfunctioning signaling system. 
A special relief flight has departed from Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) to Medan International Airport on the Indonesian island of Sumatra to transport 101 passengers and crew members of SriLankan Airlines flight UL 306, which was grounded due to a technical fault. 
Former Minister Mervyn Silva has been indicted before the Colombo High Court in a case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), alleging possession of undisclosed cash and assets exceeding Rs. 800 million. 
The Sri Lanka Railways Locomotive Operating Engineers Union has temporarily suspended its planned withdrawal from operating services on the coastal railway line, which was scheduled to commence at 12 noon today (June 6).
