Maldives voters handed President Mohamed Muizzu s party a landslide win at parlimentary elections, media said on Monday, an outcome set to shift the Indian Ocean archipelago closer to China and away from traditional partner India. 
The Veyangoda warehouse complex has only issued rice stocks deemed suitable for human consumption by the expert committee appointed by the Gampaha Divisional Health Services Director for distribution in the school meal program, says the Presidential Secretariat. 
The stocks of rice stored in a government warehouse in the Veyangoda area, which was to be used in the meals program for schoolchildren, have been found to be substandard, the Public Health Inspectors Union alleges. 
Seven persons including a child were killed while 23 others were injured following a tragic accident during the "Fox Hill Super Cross 2024" racing event held in Diyatalawa on Sunday (21). 
Three persons, including an eight-year-old boy, from Sri Lanka reached the Dhanushkodi islet in India in the early hours of Monday. On information, the marine police brought them to the shore and conducted inquiries, The Hindu reported.
