Retired Special Grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS), W.A. Chulananda Perera has been appointed as the first-ever Sports Ombudsman of Sri Lanka by the Minister of Sports Harin Fernando. 
The Department of Meteorology says showery and windy conditions are expected to enhance due to pre-monsoonal conditions over the country and surrounding sea areas. 
The Ella-Wellawaya road which was temporarily closed due to inclement weather conditions has been reopened for traffic movement. 
The Ella - Wellawaya main road will be temporarily closed for traffic from 6.00 p.m. today (16) until 6.00 a.m. tomorrow due to the prevailing inclement weather conditions. 
The resumption of the passenger ferry service between Nagapattinam in India and the Kankesanthurai region near Jaffna in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka has been delayed again for an indefinite period, Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has said.
