The US Ambassador in Colombo Julie Chung says that the United States welcomes the International Monetary Fund s (IMF) approval of Sri Lanka s second review of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) programme. 
President Ranil Wickremesinghe emphasized that all governors should actively ensure the efficient implementation of the government s welfare programs and promptly deliver their benefits to the people. 
Sri Lanka Police says it has been uncovered that the incident where several gunshots had been fired at the vehicle belonging to former Anuradhapura District parliamentarian Uddika Premaratne, had been orchestrated by the actor-turned-politician himself with the assistance of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in the area. 
The former Sri Lankan Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka says that Sri Lanka could have struck a better deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), if the island nation went to the international lender as a bipartite team consisting of both government and opposition parties.
