The Committee of Public Finance (COPF), at its most recent meeting, has examined the effectiveness of recent tax increases on tobacco and liquor, aimed at discouraging consumption and boosting government revenue. 
Former President Maithripala Sirisena has dismissed recent reports claiming that he is moving to South Korea, asserting that he has no such plans to relocate to any other country. 
The Department of Meteorology says that the Intertropical Convergence Zone, where winds from the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere converge, is affecting the island s weather conditions.
