In a significant step towards strengthening good governance and transparency in Sri Lanka, the Government of Japan has extended a grant of USD 2.5 million to support a new anti-corruption initiative implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). 
A total of seven fishermen from Rameswaram, India have been arrested by Sri Lankan Navy for poaching in seas off Talaimannar. 
The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) says that since a maximum retail price has been imposed on rice, raids will be conducted to penalize traders who sell rice at higher prices.
