The British government s plan for a landmark smoking ban that aims to stop young people from ever smoking cleared its first hurdle in Parliament on Tuesday despite vocal opposition from within Prime Minister Rishi Sunak s Conservative Party. 
The 15 Sri Lankan fishermen, who were sentenced to 7-year rigorous imprisonment in Myanmar for violating the maritime boundaries, have been granted a general amnesty. 
A 31-year-old from Wariyapola has been arrested for allegedly singing a distorted version of the popular New Year song Soorya Mangalya by Rohana Beddage and sharing it on social media, police said. 
The Meteorology Department says showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Uva provinces and in Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m.
