The Ella - Wellawaya main road will remain closed for traffic from 8.00 p.m. today (17) until 6.00 a.m. tomorrow (18) due to prevailing inclement weather conditions, the Badulla District Secretary announced
The Irrigation Department has issued an Amber flood warning for possible floods in the low-lying areas of several river basins including Kalu, Kelani, Gin, Nilwala, Deduru Oya, Maha Oya, Attanagalu Oya, Kala Oya and Malwathu Oya, if heavy rains persist over the coming days. 
In view of the 15th anniversary of Victory Day, the Sri Lanka Navy has promoted 3,146 senior and junior Sailors of the Regular and Voluntary Forces to their next ranks, Sri Lanka Navy said. 
Showery and windy conditions are expected to enhance during the next few days from today, due to pre-monsoonal conditions over the country and surrounding sea areas, the Department of Meteorology said.
