The small fishing boats along the coasts of Mannar to Colombo via Galle, Hambantota to Pottuvil and Ampara are advised not to venture out to sea from 12 noon today until further notice. 
The Ella - Wellawaya main road will remain closed for traffic from 8.00 p.m. today (17) until 6.00 a.m. tomorrow (18) due to prevailing inclement weather conditions, the Badulla District Secretary said
Showery and windy conditions are expected to enhance during the next few days from today, due to pre-monsoonal conditions over the country and surrounding sea areas, the Department of Meteorology said. 
The Department of Meteorology has issued a Red alert warning of heavy rains for Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western provinces and for Galle, Matara, Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya and Mannar districts today (19). 
Researchers from the Zoological Survey of India, in partnership with the Andhra Pradesh Biodiversity Board, rediscovered the Sri Lankan golden-backed frog (Hylarana gracilis) after two centuries in the Koundinya wildlife sanctuary in the Chittoor district, the southernmost point of the Eastern Ghats in Andhra Pradesh.
