Former Member of Parliament Mujibur Rahman of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) is nominated to fill the vacant parliamentary seat after the Supreme Court disqualified State Minister Diana Gamage from holding an MP seat. 
The court order issued preventing the Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) from removing party members Mahinda Amaraweera, Duminda Dissanayake, and Lasantha Alagiyawanna from their respective positions has been extended. 
The Ministry of Defence states that an operation has been launched in order to arrest the individuals who are involved in directing retired Sri Lankan Army soldiers to join Russian or Ukraine forces by illegal means. 
The Supreme Court on Wednesday (May 08) declared that State Minister Diana Gamage is not legally qualified to hold a parliamentary seat. 
Supreme Court Judge S. Thurairaja has recused himself from the judge bench considering the appeals petitions filed by the directors of the local agent of the X-Press Pearl ship which caught fire in the seas off Colombo Harbour and resulted in the country s worst maritime disaster.
