The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory warning the naval and fishing communities in the deep-sea areas in the South-eastern Arabian Sea of strong winds and rough seas. 
Sri Lanka Navy, in coordination with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC)in Colombo have rescued 03 fishermen from a distressed local fishing vessel off the east coast of Sri Lanka, about 42 nautical miles (77km) off the Batticaloa Lighthouse on Friday (17). 
The United States assures that it stands in solidarity with all Sri Lankans, reflecting on the resilience and hope for a united future, on the anniversary marking 15 years since the end of Sri Lanka s war.

The Irrigation Department has issued an Amber flood warning for possible floods in the low-lying areas of several river basins including Kalu, Kelani, Gin, Nilwala, Deduru Oya, Maha Oya, Attanagalu Oya, Kala Oya and Malwathu Oya, if heavy rains persist over the coming days.
