The Secretary-General of Parliament has informed the Election Commission that a Parliamentary seat in the Ninth Parliament has become vacant from 08 May 2024, due to the cancellation of parliamentary seat of Member of Parliament Diana Gamage. 
President Ranil Wickremesinghe arrived in Parliament this morning (09) shortly after the commencement of the parliamentary session. 
The Meteorology Department warns that thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Eastern, Uva and North-central provinces and in Matale, Mullaitivu and Kurunegala districts today (9). 
The trade unions affiliated with the Health Trade Union Alliance have decided to launch a 4-hour token strike in the hospitals at the provincial level from today (09) due to unmet demands. 
The Colombo Magistrate s Court has issued an overseas travel ban on former State Minister Diana Gamage today (09).
