The Colombo High Court has sentenced a 50-year-old father of one, to eight years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) after he was found guilty over the charges of serious sexual assault on an underage child. 
Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated that in order to restore the Parliament as a supreme institution, which has faced public scorn and disapproval in the past, the Parliamentarians must act with the awareness that they are the representatives of the people.
