Haiti opened a new political chapter Thursday with the installation of a transitional council tasked to pick a new prime minister and prepare for eventual presidential elections, in hopes of quelling spiraling gang violence that has killed thousands in the Caribbean country. 
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Southern provinces after 2 p.m., the Meteorology Department. 
An army soldier died and 9 others were injured after a lorry collided with an army cab in Mankulam on Friday morning (26). 
President Ranil Wickremesinghe expressed his dedication to fostering an economic landscape in the nation that would prevent future struggles among its citizens. Emphasizing the swift reconstruction of the economy within a mere two-year span, he underscored his resolve to elevate the standard of living by fortifying the economy s resilience. 
In the first quarter of 2024, state revenue has reached an impressive Rs. 834 billion, says State Minister of Finance, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.
