Sri Lanka Navy, in coordination with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC)in Colombo have rescued 03 fishermen from a distressed local fishing vessel off the east coast of Sri Lanka, about 42 nautical miles (77km) off the Batticaloa Lighthouse on Friday (17). 
At least 26 persons have been injured and hospitalised following a head-on collision involving two private buses in the Kottapola area on the Kegalle - Avissawella main road this evening (18). 
A total of 114 officers and 1,395 other ranks of the Sri Lanka Army have been promoted to their next ranks in view of the 15th Victory Day Anniversary. 
Due to pre-monsoonal conditions over the country and surrounding sea areas, prevailing showery and windy conditions are expected to enhance further during the next few days, according to the Meteorology Department.
