The heat index - the temperature felt on the human body - is expected to increase up to the Caution level at some places in Northern, North-Central, North-western and Eastern provinces and Monaragala and Hambantota districts, the Meteorology Department said in a heat index advisory. 
The North Western Provincial Animal Production and Health Department has decided to completely ban the transportation of cattle in and out of the North Western Province in order to control the viral disease that is rapidly spreading among cattle within the province. 
Food security in Sri Lanka is improving across all provinces, according to the Crop and Food Security Assessment Mission (CFSAM) report jointly carried out in February'March 2023 by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). 
The Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Gunadasa Samarasinghe emphasizes that the government has not made it mandatory to purchase any type of fertilizer from the vouchers issued for the purchase of fertilizers for paddy cultivation in the Yala season. 
Sri Lankan Rupee further appreciated against the US Dollar today (May 29), the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) reported. 
Chair of the Parliamentary Caucus for Children MP Rohini Kumari Wijerathna has emphasized that many social problems have arisen due to the exposure of child victims and the child accused, through the media and therefore immediate measures should be taken to prevent it.
