The number of people killed by flash floods and cold lava flow from a volcano in western Indonesia over the weekend has risen to 41 with 17 more missing, a local disaster agency official told AFP Monday. 
Due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, showery conditions are expected to be enhanced during the next few days, according to the Meteorology Department. 
Issuing a statement addressing the growing concerns over the government s plans to sell off national assets and state-owned enterprises (SOEs), former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has states that these actions of the government have given rise to discontent among trade unions, political parties and the general public. 
Flash floods caused by heavy rains have devastated villages in northern Afghanistan, killing 315 people and injuring more than 1,600, authorities said on Sunday, as villagers buried their dead and aid agencies warned of widening havoc.
