The Department of Immigration and Emigration says its new visa process and the online visa application portal will be implemented today (17). 
Heavy rains and flooding persisted at Dubai International Airport (DXB), causing disruptions late into Tuesday evening. Operations halted for 25 mins in the afternoon, with 45 flights cancelled by 5-15 pm, a DXB spokesperson told Gulf News. 
The 15 Sri Lankan fishermen, who were sentenced to 7-year rigorous imprisonment in Myanmar for violating the maritime boundaries, have been granted a general amnesty. 
The number of buses in operation across the country has been increased to facilitate the return of people who visited their hometowns for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, says the Private Bus Owners Association. 
The Meteorology Department says showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Uva provinces and in Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m.
