Today is International Workers Day, also known as Labour Day, which is observed annually on May 1 in Sri Lanka and the world at large. 
In his Labour Day Message, President Ranil Wickremesinghe extended an invitation to all political parties to join hands in charting a path towards a prosperous future for the nation. 
The minimum daily wage in respect of the workers engaged in Tea Growing and Manufacturing Trade has been increased to Rs. 1,700. 
Former Sri Lankan cricket captain and former minister Arjuna Ranatunga joined the May Day rally of the Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) which was held in the Thalawakele area this morning (May 01). 
The maximum retail price of a 50kg bag of cement has been reduced by Rs. 50 to Rs. 2,400 with effect from today (May 01).
