President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized that the government s primary focus will be on eradicating rural poverty, stating that effective governance demands proximity to the people. 
The Chinese Government has decided to further provide a batch of Emergency Humanitarian Materials worth Rs. 400 million to Sri Lanka, the Chinese Embassy in Colombo said. 
A stock of 40 kilograms of heroin estimated to be worth around Rs. 1,000 million has been recovered during a raid carried out by Police Special Task Force (STF) in the Sevanagala area. 
The United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung states that if the new government can strengthen the investment climate, implement anti-corruption measures, and strengthen business-friendly governance and transparency, there is potential for attracting more international manufacturers to invest in the country.
