The number of people killed by flash floods and cold lava flow from a volcano in western Indonesia over the weekend has risen to 41 with 17 more missing, a local disaster agency official told AFP Monday. 
Issuing a statement addressing the growing concerns over the government s plans to sell off national assets and state-owned enterprises (SOEs), former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has states that these actions of the government have given rise to discontent among trade unions, political parties and the general public. 
Due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, showery conditions are expected to be enhanced during the next few days, according to the Meteorology Department. 
The Meteorology Department warns that thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in Central, Sabaragamuwa, Eastern and Uva provinces and in Colombo, Gampaha, Puttalam, Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi and Polonnaruwa districts today (12).
