Election Commission announcement on Presidential Poll date

The Election Commission of Sri Lanka say it will call for the nominations to hold the presidential election within the specified timeframe in terms of the provisions of the Constitution and the Presidential Elections Act, No. 15 of 1981.

Advisory issued for severe lightening- Heavy showers expected tomorrow

The Meteorology Department warns that thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Eastern, Uva and North-central provinces and in Matale, Mullaitivu and Kurunegala districts today (9).

Bill to amend Telecom Regulatory Act to be presented in Parliament tomorrow

State Minister for Technology, Kanaka Herath, announced that the amended bill to amend the Telecommunications Regulatory Act after 28 years will be presented to the Parliament tomorrow (10). Additionally, he highlighted plans for the drafting of the National Cyber Security Act in May.

Passenger arrested with Gold Gel worth Rs. 40 million at BIA

Officers attached to the Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs have arrested a passenger at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake with Gold Gel weighing nearly 2 kilograms and estimated to be worth around Rs. 40 million.
