The U.S. President Joe Biden s nominee for Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Elizabeth K. Horst, says that if confirmed she will support members of marginalized populations, accountability, truth and reconciliation, and transparency and justice in Sri Lanka. 
State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says that President Ranil Wickremesinghe has directed him to conduct a comprehensive analysis of interest rates applicable to the savings of senior citizens. 
The Commissioner General of Examinations Mr. H.J.M.C. Amith Jayasundara says that although a few incidents of irregularities were reported during the ongoing 2023 G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination, no question paper leak has taken place. 
President Ranil Wickremesinghe emphasized his recognition of the challenges women face in safeguarding their families amidst the economic crisis. He highlighted the government s swift action by presenting two bills to the Parliament aimed at empowering women during this initial phase of economic recovery. 
The United Nations General Assembly on Friday overwhelmingly backed a Palestinian bid to become a full U.N. member by recognizing it as qualified to join and recommending the U.N. Security Council "reconsider the matter favorably." MORE>
