The stunning electoral sweep of the National People s Power (NPP) led by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is "an earthquake in Sri Lankan politics", says Erik Solheim, the former Norwegian peace facilitator in the island nation. 
The representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), currently on a visit to Sri Lanka, are scheduled to meet with officials from the Ministry of Energy and the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) for a discussion. 
The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval for the import of 70,000 metric tonnes of rice as a short-term solution to address the existing shortage of rice in the market. 
The Court of Appeal has upheld the death sentence given to Geeganagamage Amarasiri alias Julampitiye Amare who was accused of shooting and killing of two persons at a JVP rally in June 2012. 
A Fundamental Rights (FR) petition has been filed with the Supreme Court seeking an order that the fundamental human rights have been violated through the decision by the respondents including former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to issue liquor licenses in violation of the Excise Act after the 2024 Presidential Election was announced.
